The 2nd Pill 💊
This week includes: Black Tower in London, Trams in Amsterdam, virtual storefronts in Japan.
👊 Hi,
This week on the menu we have:
📺 Movie / series / short - The Black Tower from 1987 (Just Watch, Youtube or do some diggin’) - I’ve given this short movie as an exampe of psychogeography-related movie in one of my essays, but The Black Tower works perfectly without philosophical context. Eerie, so close to normal life, yet so deeply rooted in magical realism.
🎧 Album to listen to - Saib - Babop - (Spotify / Bandcamp) - It always amazes me how, through remix culture and all of its branches, various tunes, songs, and sounds have gained new meanings and emotions. Saib took the best (in terms of sound) from "Cowboy Bebop" and gave it a new spin, so we have nostalgia for all those who know the series, but also a nice relaxation piece along the way.
🎮 Game to play - Tramsterdam - Browser gaming has been a lot on my mind recently, as it provides a great place for both, experimentation, POCing a game and hussle-free gametitles and requires no efford and hardware, apart from time-investment. Tramsterdam is a lovely (but addicvite) minimalist Amsterdam-inspired town builder with trams - nothing more, nothing less.
📖 Book to read - Henepola Gunaratana - Mindfulness in Plain English (Goodreads, World Of Books, Bookfinder) - Finally, a book that demystifies meditation, presenting it as a practical self-help tool rather than a mystical panacea that is separated from psychology. Reading through this and than comparing this to all of the noise generated by meditaiton apps (most of them look like tiny health-centers with loats of rooms) and how complex they can be is an exercise I recommend.
🪄 Tool - Dropover - The world of Apple’s app developers is full of people trying to fill even the smallest holes in the way we work and interact with the system, even to the smallest detail, such as the “drag and drop” mechanic. If you move a lot of files on a daily basis, this one will be a blessing.
📱 Internet WWW - Japan Book Hunter - When setting up a online store is realitively easy (with more in-depth internet ecom oppurtunities incoming), I really admire the Instagram storefronts of obscure and niche initiatives, which remind me of all kinds of small businesses located in a physical word. Rather than engaging into a buying spree on the “JBH”, I use the page as a discoverability tool for all that is weird, obscure and unknown to me from the Japanese culture and I suggest you do it too.
Inhale the narratives, get inspired, pass it forward.
✌️
